Just came back from my first ever camp as a camp instructor !!! Finally, I've been promoted from an attachee to a trainer. And my first ever camp as a trainer is for AO outdoor. Usually, this company is exclusively only to senior trainers as the campsite is located away from mainland Singapore, ie P.Ubin or Kota Tinggi. Thus, the requirement to join this company is much more stringent as compared to other company since the camps are tougher. Fortunately or unfortunately, my sister is a senior trainer so she was able to smoothen my way to get into the company. This company also pays much more money than other company....50% more ^^ and since I like going to P.Ubin and going for camps, this job is really easy money for me.
So how's my first camp? Unfortunately for me, it was a v.v.v.wet experience. AO was trying out a new campsite....a totally outdoor campsite where there's only bushes and trees around. Campers have to pitch their own tents. Toilets were at least 500m away from the campsite. Boys bathe naked in the open and the girls...well I dont know if they went nude -_-, but they also bathe in the open. They also have to cook their own food so basically, it's a total outdoor camp. Even the trainers have difficulty coping with it. There were a lot of chaos as it was the first time such a camp was happening. And Regent sec was the suai batch to be the pioneer of what we called the Jelutong camp . Simply put, it was almost as hard as a NS camp, minus the push-ups. A Npark worker who witness our camp rank it as being as difficult as a Mt.Ophir expedition. And to make it worse, it was raining v.heavily during the 2 days we were at the campsite. By the 2nd nite, we decided that the campsite was no longer 'campable' so we did a mass evacuation to our main campsite, MCC. So at 8pm in the evening, 300 ppl was walking across Ubin in the heavy rain with a heavy bag. This is really one of the grandest evacuation I've ever seen. And the one leading this evacuation was me lol. It was one of rarest moment where trainers actually have to ask the kids to slow down and where the kids make the trainers have to run -_- The evacuation went smoothly though. After 9hrs in heavy rain, it feels good to be in the warm room of a chalet. Everyone was just glad to have a proper roof over their heads and a chance to bathe in the toilet ^^
Overall, it's a definetely an enriching experience. And I learnt that girls can be v.v.v.v troublesome >.<>.> How do you handle problematic girls anyway? Any ideas? >.<...ciao
